Tuition for weekly lessons and a “free absence lesson” are averaged into a flat monthly installment that covers a school year session from August 2019 to May 2020. Tuition guarantees the student a weekly lesson time slot whether or not all the lessons take place. In addition to weekly lessons, your tuition includes numerous hours of my time in lesson preparation, correspondence, event planning, and investment in professional music teaching organizations and their sponsored events.
Tuition is due by the 1st lesson of each month. It may be sent via the student, mail, or paid online through Square invoicing, PayPal, or Venmo. If a monthly installment is not received by the first lesson of the month, a $10 overdue fee will be added to the following month. An additional $10 will be charged for each additional week that tuition is late.
For your convenience, I do send out monthly reminder statements through Square payments. You do not have to pay via Square, though.
There are three lesson options available:
1) 30-minute lesson – $100 per month
2) 45-minute lesson (30 minutes of instruction with 15 minutes of computer theory time) – $125 per month
3) 60-minute lesson (45 minutes of instruction with 15 minutes of computer theory time) – $150 per month
Throughout the year I may purchase music for your child and will charge you accordingly. Occasionally, I may ask you to go and purchase music/supplies for your child. I try to keep expenses at a minimum, but materials are necessary for the furtherance of their musical education. There may be various recital/performance fees throughout the year, but I will always communicate those to you in advance so you may make an informed decision about your participation. These costs generally don’t exceed $10 at a time.
Regular attendance at lessons is essential for a student’s continuing success. Please call, text, or email me if you must miss a lesson. There are no refunds and no “applying tuition to the next month” for missed lessons. There are no makeup times (with the exception of an absence due to another musical endeavor, such as band concert, band trip, rehearsal, etc.). In this day and age with so many wonderful opportunities available to children, I have found that trying to find a compatible makeup time is almost impossible for both teacher and student. Students missing lessons 2 weeks in a row without some form of notification will be terminated.
In order to provide a solution to the sometimes unavoidable absence, I have factored in a “free lesson” per semester to your monthly rate in order to account for the unexpected illness, traffic jam, or emergency you may have during the semester. If you need to be absent more than once during the semester, you may choose the Lesson Swap option. In Lesson Swap, you exchange lesson time with another student for that week in order to accommodate your schedule better. I allow myself 1 lesson missed for extreme illness or family emergency (only if absolutely necessary) during the year which is not made up.
In the event of withdrawal midyear, two weeks’ notice is appreciated. No paid tuition will be refunded at time of withdrawal.
In the event that I travel to you for lessons, the same policy stands for additional fees and attendance. An additional fee is added on for travel distance and time via federal pricing for mileage. The only exception for traveling lessons is that I will make-up any of my absences that may incur due to car trouble or inclement weather. There are still no refunds and no “applying tuition to the next month” for missed lessons with traveling lessons.
